(Senior) Technical Support Engineer for Messaging Server (SunOne/iplanet)
Job Summary :Â
- Provide post sales software systems support to customers on Web based commercial application for SMI customers.Â
- Display and maintain high level of professional behavior at all times.
Assist in ensuring Services meet Customer Satisfaction goals.
Will carry a 7×24 pager.Â
- Mentor new and junior support engineers.Â
- Act as a technical resource to any support personnel.Â
- Act as an interface between customers and SMI engineers, using Call management tools to update all involved parties of activities.Â
- Provides problem isolation and resolution, using diagnostics tools.Â
- Able to work documentation issues by providing necessary document and/or filing documentation bugs as well as provide recommendations to customers and account teams.Â
- Act as an interface with Support, Sales and Professional Services organizations to ensure proper support delivery is available for customer needs. - Review and act upon daily reports of open service.Â
- Tasks for Java Enterprise System products.Â
- Develop and provide training as needed on new or existing supported products and responsible for technical readiness.Â
- Assist in technical escalation management.Â
- Perform/Drive technical escalation management.Â
- Act as a liaison for higher levels of technical support.Â
- Provide support for the field management teams.Â
- Participate in new products technical support and delivery reviews.Â
- Skilled knowledge in complex software systems support involving Java Enterprise System products.Â
- Handle special projects as assigned.Â
- Capable of communicating with product development engineers.Â
- Ensure proper implementation of Corporate programs and processes.Â
- Provide management and leadership skills to ensure customer satisfaction in a volatile customer situation.Â
- Assist in development and delivery of trainings and assessments for the Technical Support Engineers.Â
- Plays a strategic role in improving customer satisfaction for Services.
Works closely with all levels of customer and external engineers and management on the most complex problems.
Perceived by customers to be the highest level of technical support Services has to offer.Â

·         Strong working knowledge of HTTP, HTTPS, and TCP/IP protocolsÂ
·         Good understanding of LDAP protocols/servicesÂ
·         Messaging Server (Sun ONE/iPlanet) product experience is a must;Â
·         Experience with other Messaging Servers, Java Web Server (Sun), Directory Servers, Application Servers is preferred.Â
·         Good knowledge of C/C++ and JAVA, J2EE (servlets, jsps, ejb, jdbc, message queue, plus web services), XML, HTML, Unix shell scripting.Â
·         Knowledge of SSL and certificate-based authenticationÂ
·         Hands-on networking experience, particularly in TCP/IP and Internet protocols
Knowledge of web technologies (such as proxies, firewalls, load balancers etc.) Plus: Deployment,Â
·         System performance tuning skills and HA cluster skillÂ
·         Experience in Stack trace & Core file analysis a Plus - Good customer interaction skillsÂ

Responsibilities: Â
- Work Kuala Lumpur support center, supporting customers from around the world, with special emphasis on the Asia Pacific.Â
- Responsible for working on customer issues reported via phone and email.Â

- Advanced experience using telecommunications and data networking test equipment such as Ethereal and/or SnifferProÂ
- Familiarity with security policies and their implementation.Â
- TCP/IP, HTTP, CIFS, MAPI, SSL, HTML, DNS, FTP, ICAP, WCCP, Socks, Streaming Protocols, IM Protocols, Linux/Unix, Windows networking, experience with Network Security.Â

Is there such a thing as great customer excellent partnership ?
In today’s business world, where everything is about cutting cost, trying to get as much out of a ringgit value, we often heard bad comment about suppliers. If you can get what you want & more, if the supplier is always there despite the issue is big or really minute, it doesn’t really matter if the demand is reasonable or important & necessarry, then the supplier is good (not even excellent, mind you :p).
On the reverse end, I wonder if there is such a thing as good customer ? If there is, what then would be the criteria…hmmm
Well, in the past 1.5 months, I have the opportunity to work with one which I can classify under this category. I was approached by this European based company to assist them in hiring for their AP operation here. They just entered the AP market. As usual, we met up in this formal pre-sales meeting. Instead of me pitching for the partnership, the CEO was very organized, structured, knows exactly what he wants, with a good sense of direction, but most of all, his open-ness in his approach. I guess the very principal of his appraoch was TRUST which is amazing. As the working relationship developed, I realised it doesn’t just come from the CEO, but the same attitude has been adopted by its management team. There is no “airs” in them. They are certainly truthful, willing to be transparent, they share info & gives necessary assurance, and surprising they are accomodating. I admire their maturity & aptitude in striking a partnership to meet a common bottomline.Â
As a result, I have that confident in presenting the opportunity to my candidates. We were able to go to & fro with suggestions & ways to work better. It was a brilliant working partnership. Ultimately, they met their hiring objectives effectively, I had a great time placing people for them. It was such a such a joy & satisfaction.

Yes, is working, almost!
It has been months, looking at the archieves, the last posting was in July :P. Oh well, what else. It has been creazeee busy busy busy…
After a long merdeka break, like one of you said, changed engine oil & filters, now I am ready to run more efficiently now
Finally, finally, my weblog is functioning almost the way I wish it to be. yeah…..The navigating header is functioning properly now, the contact is what is suppose to be, the side panel is also working now. Phew…..what a relieve. A few more tweaks, it will be perfect. All thanks to the brilliant girl who got it done below 2.5 hrs, I think. You know who you are and I got to say you are certainly just superb. Thank you !!
Now is back to my part for the search to fix the balance of the issues. Surely look forward to a weblog of my wish soon.
