In the past few days, there has been a particular candidate who called almost everyone of us. 1st was asking for the feedback for the position which she applied. Then it was in the pretext of checking the positions we advertised in the website or in online job ads. Certainly there is nothing wrong to inquire. But be sure that your call is not nosy, impolite and push over.Â
This morning her call came to me. Her questions were to understand our company, what sort of clients we went would go after,……Â Ironically, these are such common info which can be obtained from corporate website or a check in the market, one would know our more than 10 years of market expereince and regional present.
Should the call were to come in later, I probably would have entertained her. But it was such a wrong timing as I was multitasking several pressing matters this morning. I basically brushed her off. It is certainly not nice of me on my part to do that despite the situation. On the other hand, this kind of people need to be put back at their place.
But the point is - there is no need to call many consultants in a search company to ask for repeated questions or ask different questions or seek clarification if you are in dires need to look for a job. Consultant shares info & insights among themselves. There is also a database engine to record your representation to the consultant, info & data.
The best thing to do is : to get through to a consultant for the right sector/industry, then be open to him/her about your situation, made known your job hunt selection criteria, trust them with your detailed profile and work with that person from there. Headhunters work for the clients not the candidates.
The best way to help you in your long term career movements is to maintain a “close friend” sort of relationship with the headhunters, be honest & open with your details & career goals. Never never manipulate & lie, let alone pushy & nosy, it will only backfire. To manage it another way, your name in the database will probably be tagged, and will probably be known to among headhunters in the industry sooner or later as the headhunting space is a small circle.  Â
