It’s year end. A time to unwind, take a little break, re-charge & rejuvenate. Maybe a little time to ponder & review, re-strategise and set goals. Also a time to celebrate & party. I wonder if there is any different this time round. With the looming uncertainty of the economy ahead, I wonder if people are still that upbeat with the year end holidaying, shopping & celebration. I guess it probably is. :) Take a look at all the malls which were packed with shoppers, trolley full of purchases. Thank you for helping out in the economy  :)

A long break, I took this chance to clean up, clean out, de-clutter & re-organized the living space. 3.5 days of full time work, 1/4 of recycle charity truck later, there are still nitty gritty loose end to tie up. It was a very enjoyable process I must say. Clean, tidy, organized, manageble, simple……making ample spaces receiving blessings :) Truly, we do not need much to live,  not things especially, to be happy & fulfilled. It is more of living purposefully.

After the cleaning up, now is the time for cleaning up the ME :). A time to look back the last one year with some reflection & review where I am at, strategise & plan forward. Life is to live purposefully.

Common to most self help courses, it will tell you the following areas made up of our life as a whole :

  • Personal
  • Health
  • Recreation
  • Family
  • Relationships / Friends
  • Community
  • Career
  • Financial
  • Household
  • Spiritual

But  I like to simplified to 4 simple broad areas:

Internal :

  • Personal & Spiritual
  • Career & Finance
  • Health & Fitness (Sports)

External

  • Friends / Social

With this, we need to have goals set for each area. Anthony Robbin has a great simple approach to goals setting. It is call the ultimate formula of success. I am paraphrasing them.

  1. Know what you REALLY REALLY WANT. What to do want in each above areas & why ? List the “WANTS” and the reasons, that will become your goals. Put a deadline on each one.
  2. Plans & Actions. With your goals, make plans of what you need to do for the next one year then break it down to quarterly, monthly & weekly. The n make your decision count continuously, that is take ownership of your power of choice, make conscious decision on daily, hourly basis to have your action directed towards this objectives.
  3. Review. Know your results. That’s why it is important to do regular review of your goals Vs results. If your are moving closer to your goals good, keep moving forward. But if you are not, then know why & change approach.
  4. Repeat the above :) until the goals are achieved.

So, I hope 2009 will be an awesome year for you. ;)

I was driving down a lorong in my housing garden yesterday evening. As it’s school holidays, children were playing in the compound. Then I saw a football came flying out from a corner house compound. There were 5 kids ranging from 9 years old to about 14. Their first reaction was stood & stared. So, I was anticipating the oldest boy will take the lead to get permission & get out to collect the ball. Well, that didnt happen. Instead, when the rest of the children turn & look at the oldest boy, he simply stood there & shrug his shoulder, a way to say “I don’t know”. In the end, it was the only girl, who is about 8-9 y/o, in the group, opened the gate, looked out for traffic, went to collect the ball back.

I thought to myself, this scene is so reflective of our society today. Look around & observe, so many families around us where the mother has rised up to provide & protect the family. So many marriages where the wife finally has to take charge of her life & take care of herself coz her man is just nothing more than a shameless parasite.

Sad !!
